If the Turkish presence in Africa is quite well received, it is in large part due to the outspoken leadership and honesty of President Erdogan.

Speaking at the Turkey-Africa Economic and Business Forum II, the latter underlined the importance Turkey attaches to its cooperation with Africa, and said:

«

We want to improve our relations, based on mutual respect, in all fields on the basis of victory Winning and equal partnership.
Since taking office, we have been working in this spirit to strengthen our cooperation with the whole of Africa without any discrimination, especially during the period of my Prime Ministry in 2005, we have declared the “AFRICAN YEAR” .
The pace has picked up since then. When we took office we had 12 embassies in Africa and today we have 41 embassies. This number will continue to increase. Turkey’s initiative for Africa has found wide resonance and has been greatly appreciated across the continent. The friendly hand our country extended has never been overlooked by African countries.

The UAE is re-launching one of the world’s oldest trade routes, establishing itself not only as a key gateway to Africa, but also as the continent’s second-largest foreign investor after China. “If you look at ‘One Belt One Road’, there is great pressure for the UAE government, Chinese government and African governments to link these three regions together.

In 2018, UAE’s non-oil exports and re-exports to Africa reached around 18 billion euros. Many of them are said to have passed through DP World, which operates in seven African countries.

Africa accounts for 10% of the port giant’s global revenues and it is growing, but there are other Emirati players active on the continent. Looking at current figures and current trade trends, UAE-Africa trade relations will experience a much higher level of intensity.
