Agriculture

Africa’s economy is heavily dependent on its agriculture sector, which contributes significantly to the continent’s development. While the continent accounts for about 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land, only 7% is irrigated, and only 8% is under managed water and land development.

Despite ineffective efforts from governments to end the dependence on basic food commodities such as rice, corn and other manufactured goods most African countries heavily depends on imports of cereals to meet consumption demand.

Food self-sufficiency is still a tough challenge for many countries in spite of the very favorable climate and abundance of water resources in vastly arable lands. China’s agricultural revolution has been the driving forces of its emergence so should be Africa. Investing in the African agricultural sector with modern technology is one of the most promising return on investment as local demand is very far from being met.
